For all you ITunes and Ipod junkies out there Microsoft is launching their own player/service . The beauty of their service is that you will get credit for any songs you already have on ITunes. The problem is that Microsoft is still going to have to pay royalties on the songs you alread purchased.
Real Tech News - Microsoft goes WIFI
While the prospect of a new player on the market is encouraging, this is an example of what is wrong with music copyrights and DRM in the first place. Why should Microsoft have to pay, on behalf of the customer, for electronic delivery of a song the customer has already purchased?
Let's quit wasting time and cut to the chase. Let the RIAA be responsible for keeping track of every song every user owns. It can't be that hard, Microsoft can do it now with Media Player. That is where we are heading anyway, they can be the DMV of DRM.
